2 O’Clock in the Morning

How to get back to sleep if you awaken at night during those bewitching hours:

  • sink into your pillow and bed feeling heavy (doing so means you relax tense neck or other muscles)
  • count backwards from 100
  • have the room completely dark (cover eyes if necessary)
  • have complete silence
  • or… turn on a calming audio book and set on a timer, at 1/2 speed (on Spotify)
  • sometimes it helps to get out of bed and walk around the house for a few minutes, then go back to bed
  • pray for help falling asleep (I include this because it seems to work like a charm!)

A few things to do before bed:

  • it also helps to make the intention to sleep well tonight before you go to bed perhaps during your daily meditation or any other random time during the day
  • for me, i must avoid caffeine for 8-10 hours before bedtime.
  • drink “sleepy time” tea in the evening
  • possible supplements: small amount of melatonin; CBD ointment; magnesium spray
