While I may be distorting the message, there is something important about this subject. Currently, in my evening reading, I am re-reading books I have by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. Some of his core messages are just sit in zazen, just be, and focus completely on your momentary task. But another is to have correct posture. While he says this mainly in the context of sitting meditation, or zazen, it is also very important in all of life. It is important for our health, for our confidence, for our longevity, and for being the best that we can be. People can make a quick judgment about us just by seeing how we carry ourselves, how we stand, how we walk and sit — by our posture. In this age of addiction to cell phone and technology we have slumped posture with forward necks and shoulders.
Try to stand up straight, sit straight, and meditate with a straight spine. This is an important part of living our lives.
