Thoughts on Loneliness and Happiness

Today, when I scoured the headlines, two prominent articles on LONELINESS popped up. There is no doubt that loneliness is a problem in America, but in Asia and among the over 65 population, and among the work from home crowd, too. Society has been built around separation, the individual, and escaping from other humans. Cell phones, ordering food to be delivered, and working out at home all contribute to separation.

Some article examples:

I’d like to simplify and express an opinion about these two subjects from a spiritual perspective.

  1. If you are connected to the source within, disconnected from your ego-self, and have an open heart, you cannot be lonely.
  2. If you focus on other people instead of feeling sorry for yourself as a victim of unfortunate circumstances, you will be joyful. Compassion is making others happy. If you make others happy, you make yourself happy.
  3. If you do both #1 and #2 above, you will live in joy and never even think of “loneliness”. It’s not that this all so simple to do. Inner purification requires daily practices and motivation 24/7.
